Hongfei Yu (于洪飞)
I am an undergraduate student in Astronomy at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC, Class of 2023), and a member of the Wang Shouguan Talent Program in Astronomy. I’m an undergraduate intern in University of Wisconsin-Madison now, from July 2026 to January 2027.
My research interests are in phenomenological cosmology, including Large-Scale Structure (LSS), Dark Energy, and Fundamental Physics, with a current focus on:
- Using statistics of halo and galaxy distribution to probe halo model, supervised by Prof. Huiyuan Wang.
- Constraining non-Gaussianity with cosmic shear enhanced by Neural Network, cooperated with Prof. Moritz Muenchmeyer.
Besides, I’m also interested in the Effective Field Theory (EFT) in LSS and dark energy, which should be powerful method on probing the universe I think.
Highlights
- Research experience: project in modern cosmology at NAOC (2024–2025), undergraduate research program at USTC (2025-2026), summer research internship in UW-Madison (2026).
- Collaboration member: member in DESI Cosmological Parameter Estimator (CPE) group.
- Academic training: strong grad coursework in GR & Cosmology, LSS, and AI for Astrophysics, plus a full physics/math foundation.
- Teaching assistantship: Theoretical Mechanics (2025 Fall), Electrodynamics (2026 Spring).

Beyond Physics
Outside research, I enjoy badminton, volleyball, and orchestral performance as a percussionist.

I currently serve as president of the USTC Student Symphony Orchestra.
