Hongfei Yu (于洪飞)
I am an undergraduate studying astronomy at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC, Class of 2023) and a member of the Wang Shouguan Talent Program in Astronomy. I am currently an undergraduate intern at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where my internship runs from July 2026 to January 2027.
My research interests lie in phenomenological cosmology, particularly large-scale structure (LSS), dark energy, and fundamental physics. My current work focuses on:
- Studying the statistics of halo and galaxy distributions to probe the halo model, under the supervision of Prof. Huiyuan Wang.
- Exploring neural network methods for constraining non-Gaussianity with cosmic shear, in collaboration with Prof. Moritz Muenchmeyer.
I am also interested in effective field theory (EFT) approaches to large-scale structure and dark energy, which I see as promising tools for understanding the universe.
Highlights
- Research experience: cosmology research at NAOC (2024–2025), an undergraduate research program at USTC (2025–2026), and a research internship at UW–Madison (2026–2027).
- Collaboration membership: member of the DESI Cosmological Parameter Estimator (CPE) group.
- Academic training: graduate-level coursework in general relativity and cosmology, large-scale structure, and AI for astrophysics, alongside a broad foundation in physics and mathematics.
- Teaching assistantships: Theoretical Mechanics (Fall 2025) and Electrodynamics (Spring 2026).
